An In-Depth Look At House Blessing Spells

History of House Blessing Spells and Rituals

House blessing spells and rituals have been done for hundreds, if not thousands of years, by people from all religions – pagans, druids, Wiccans, Celtics,  Voodoo and Santeria practitioners, Christians,  Buddhists and Hindu’s.

When to do a House Blessing

House Blessings are typically requested when: you purchase or move into a new home, after a death or traumatic event, if you feel an unwanted presence, spirit or entity in your home, or to create an environment of peace & harmony when you feel unrest in your dwelling.

They are also used to cleanse negative energy or to protect a house at any time.

Depending on why you are doing your home blessing I would suggest different days to do this House Blessing Spell.

Mondays are associated with the home. Thursdays are associated with the family. Saturdays are associated with the banishment of negativity.

The time of day is one of the many considerations I take into account, as well as the direction I face. The sun rises in the east, and many cultures pray in the morning facing the east, so I face East. If you’re not sure which way is East in your home, download a free compass app for your phone – easy –peasy, it will come in handy for other magical workings too! Symbolically and magically the early morning hours is a time of new beginnings. Morning is also the time when the light greets us via the Sun, so I always try and perform a House Blessing Ritual early in the morning. Twilight or dusk is a time for letting go, a time to shift from your busy day into a more restful state. It’s magically a time of completion, ending the cycle of the day and all that the day held for you and your beloveds. So I always do a Sacred House Cleaning Ritual (a deep cleaning and de-cluttering) the day before I perform a House Blessing Ritual. Be sure to time your day and end the Sacred Cleaning Ritual by dusk.

You can perform a house blessing by yourself or with family and friends. The more positive intentions you activate, the better. If you invite positive, like-minded friends and family to participate, you might ask them to bring a special prayer, poem, or ritual to share; further magnifying the positive energy. Below are five steps to perform a group house blessing ritual… and by the way, this ritual can be done solo too! This ritual is best done in the morning, at the start of a new day as I mentioned above. Some beautiful additions to your House Blessing Ritual could be: Gemstones such as rose quartz or amethyst and pink and/or white flowers.

There are many ways to perform a house blessing. It’s important to use the method you feel most comfortable with that you are either drawn to, or coincides with your spiritual beliefs. You can combine elements of different house blessings into your own method.

Simple Witchcraft Home Blessing Spell

You will need a sage bundle or a few sticks or cones of sage incense.  Set up your altar as usual and close the circle. Light one of the sticks or cones. When the energy has peaked, you’re ready to ask the Goddess to cleanse and bless your home.

Say the following: Cleanse this space, remove the past. I’ve found my happy home at last. Fill this place with joy and love; send your blessings from above.

Then, cleanse and charge the sage bundle or incense during the ritual.  Open the circle and proceed as follows.

Carefully walk through your new home with the lit sage bundle or incense, chanting the above affirmation, or your own words. Visualize bad vibes evaporating as the incense smoke fills into every room, closet and hallway with positive power and goodness.  When you are finished, extinguish the sage bundle or allow the incense to burn out safely.

You can also mix water and salt and sprinkle it outside around the home’s boundaries. For more effective cleansing, use moon water instead of regular water and be sure to charge the concoction within the ritual.

This spell can be used anytime you feel that negative energy or ill will has permeated the sacred boundaries of your home.

Another House Blessing Spell:

You will need:

Salt and Water
Incense for fire and air
Milk and Honey
Oil for anointing
Wine for the offering, can be white wine or a cider
Bells, Pots, Pans, Whistles, etc.

Cast a circle in the main room – living room and after casting, visualize the circle expanding to include the entire house. Call upon the spirits and energies living in the house or apartment. Invite those who will be harmonious with the new household and its energies to remain. Invite – ask those who will be happier elsewhere to depart.

Release all “energies” not compatible with the new household. This may be expressed as a “release” in order to unbind anything that may be stuck. Then call upon, greet, and invite ancestors, patron deities, and all harmonious spirits and energies to dwell in the house as they please.

Gather up the pots, pans, and all the noise-makers. Go to each door and window, not forgetting the fire-place and dog-door, making as much racket as humanly possible–to shoo out anything unwanted. This can be fun, and also raises lots of energy for the next important step. Go again throughout the house and at each portal  such as doors, windows, etc. sprinkle salt – water and cense, saying:

“By the Elements I purify and charge this portal.”

Then anoint the portal with milk and honey, saying:

“By Milk and Honey I ensure prosperity and peace within this place.”

Finally, anoint the portal with oil, saying:

“With Oil I seal this portal and protect all within.”

At the front door a special prayer is said, asking the guardian deities of God and Goddess to freely grant entry to all friends and loved ones, and to prevent passage to any who would do harm.” Then, if it’s a house, pour wine across the width of the threshold; if it’s an apartment anoint the threshold with light touches of wine.

The house holders then each take a sip of wine, leaving some as an offering to the Gods, and the Circle should be closed. The remaining wine, milk, and honey should be offered to the Gods outdoors.

This is very effective if done as part of a house warming party, followed by much feasting. It has also been done very effectively by two people. It only takes about 30 minutes to do a large house. You can take the time.

Do make certain to “ground” afterward, by closing the circle and by eating. This ritual can “stir” up everybody and make the house feel full of “buzzy” energy.

House Blessing Oil:

Once you make it, use a dab to anoint each window and door of the home.

1 oz extra virgin olive oil2 drops sandalwood oil2 drops dark rum2 drop lavender oil3 dried rosemary leavesA smidgen of minced fresh garlic (optional if the smell is too much)A piece of real copper (copper wire would work)A small glass bottle with a black lid

Combine everything in the little bottle, and give it a vigorous shake. Let it sit out under the light of the moon (any phase) for 3 nights. Then use something sharp to mark an X on the top of the lid.

After that, you can rub a small drop on each opening to your house for a blessing. Door frames, windowsills and fireplace hearths all work fine.
