Simple Purifying Potion
Imbolc marks the transition from winter to spring, so what better time to bring out a purifying potion and do a little spring “cleansing?” This handy little potion can be used anytime you feel the need to purify and balance the energies in you, your environment, and even the beings in your life. Before you get started, it’s a good idea to cleanse, consecrate, and charge your ingredients and tools; this will bless each component of your spell and align all of the individual energies into a single unified purpose.
- a big bowl of snow or ice; if there isn’t any of this available, you can set a bowl of ice cubes out in the morning sun (don’t worry about the ice melting)
- 1 teaspoon of sea or kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon of olive oil
- 1 sprig of fresh or dried rosemary
Put the snow or ice (or melted water) into a cauldron or pot and place it over heat and bring it to a simmer. While you’re waiting for the water to simmer, charge and consecrate the salt, olive oil, and rosemary. Once the water is simmering, add the salt and stir widdershins (counterclockwise to banish negative energies) until the salt is melted. Next, add the oil and rosemary, this time stirring deosil (clockwise) to invoke positive energies. Open yourself to the energy of your potion. You should be sensing balance and harmony coming from your pot; once you feel it begin to pulsate the potion is ready.
Remove your potion from the heat and let it cool. Strain your potion (I like to use a simple coffee filter for this) and pour it into a spray bottle. Use the bottle to mist your home, yourself, pets, people, etc. to restore healthy and balanced energies. Try adding it to your bathwater for a purification bath, add it to your laundry, or even your household cleaner to cleanse and purify your home.
Store your potion in the refrigerator and it will last for a moon cycle.
